About Us

The China-Canada Traditional Culture Association (CCTCA) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, practice, and promotion of traditional Chinese arts and culture. Our work focuses on traditional art forms such as Quyi storytelling and singing arts, Chinese seal carving, guqin music, and classical poetry recitation. Through workshops, performances, educational programs, and community cultural initiatives, we seek to create meaningful opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience, understand, and participate in traditional Chinese culture.

We believe that traditional culture is not only something to be preserved, but also something to be practised, shared, and reimagined in contemporary life. By bringing together artists, learners, families, and community members, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for Chinese cultural heritage while encouraging authentic dialogue and connection across generations and cultures.

Our Journey

CCTCA was founded by a group of artists, educators, cultural practitioners, and community members who share a passion for traditional Chinese culture and a commitment to strengthening cultural connections within Canada.

Our founding members bring experience in areas such as Quyi performance, traditional music, poetry recitation, education, cultural programming, and community engagement. The association grew from a shared belief that traditional Chinese arts can continue to inspire people when they are presented in ways that are welcoming, engaging, and connected to contemporary community life.

In our early development, we began organizing cultural workshops, performances, school presentations, intergenerational learning activities, and community collaborations. These initiatives allowed participants not only to observe traditional art forms, but also to learn directly from practitioners and take part in the creative process.

Our Artistic Focus

CCTCA embraces the richness and diversity of traditional Chinese culture while placing particular emphasis on several interconnected artistic traditions.

Quyi combines storytelling, singing, language, rhythm, and instrumental accompaniment. It allows history, humour, local traditions, and human experiences to be passed from one generation to another through the spoken and sung word.

Chinese seal carving brings together calligraphy, visual design, craftsmanship, and literary meaning. Each seal reflects both artistic discipline and personal expression.

Guqin music represents one of China’s oldest scholarly musical traditions. Its quiet, spacious sound encourages reflection, inner balance, and an appreciation for subtle beauty.

Classical poetry recitation and chanting bring written poetry to life through voice, rhythm, tone, and emotion. They offer a way to experience the musicality and cultural meaning of the Chinese language.

Together, these art forms reflect the depth of Chinese aesthetics and provide different pathways for participants to connect with history, language, philosophy, and creativity.

Building a Community

We envision CCTCA as a welcoming and growing cultural community where artists, learners, families, seniors, youth, and audiences can come together to learn and create.

We are especially committed to intergenerational cultural learning. Through shared activities, experienced practitioners can pass on knowledge and skills, while younger participants bring new perspectives, energy, and creativity.

We also hope to support newcomers and multicultural communities by creating accessible cultural experiences that encourage curiosity and mutual understanding. Our goal is not only to present Chinese culture, but also to create a space where people can build relationships through art.

Moving Forward

As CCTCA continues to grow, we hope to expand our educational programs, performances, community partnerships, and opportunities for artistic collaboration.

We aim to support both emerging and experienced cultural practitioners, create more opportunities for children and youth to encounter traditional arts, and provide platforms where traditional culture can be presented with both authenticity and contemporary relevance.

Step by step, we hope to contribute to the continued vitality of traditional Chinese arts in Canada and to build meaningful bridges between Chinese heritage and the wider multicultural community.
